Reflection and peer review results:
The results of the peer survey assisted me in revising my website for this class. I reflected upon each of the ideas my peers recommended, making changes as needed.
The survey I created for the peer review contained 10 questions. I included 7 yes/no questions and 3 questions that required my peers to answer in extended response form. I obviously received the most feedback in the extended response answers and many of the suggestions my peers made were extremely helpful. For the most part, the advice I received was encouraging and positive.
My peers reported the ease of navigating to various activities on the website as well as my ability to ensure the site is appealing and appropriate for the students in 7th grade. They also reported that the unit activities I created for my students were reflective of both the Common Core Standards as well as the NETS Standards for both students and teachers. The class blog seemed to be a web tool they feel would not only support the comprehension of the story as they respond to the discussion questions, but it also supports the writing and technology standards.
The areas of the website I revised based upon the suggestions I received from my classmates included changing the wording in the tab for student activities to assignments and making a separate tab for the class blog. I also shortened the titles on each of the tabs in order to ensure all the tabs fit on the home page. One suggestion made that I did not implement was to improvise a tracking page to help students remain diligent in completing all the assignments. I chose not to implement this suggestion because students have access to a planner they use in my class every day. This planner is used not only in my class, but in all academic subject areas.
I look forward to implementing this unit for my 7th grade language arts classes this year.
